Why divers love “Night Diving”
Descending into the dark water is absolutely the best time to see crabs, lobster, shrimp, basket-starfish and much more.
Most fish that are seen by day are tucked away and sleeping by night; all others are nocturnal, out in plain sight and feeding in their glory.
Octopi & squid swim while parrot fish are wrapped in their protective cocoons, suspended in the water; motion nearby disrupts the mucus layer around them allowing their narrow escape from predators, it’s truly fascinating ; then only wat to see see is by night diving.
At night, certain corals bloom vibrant colors, they absorb nutrients from the water and feed the reef dwelling marine life, it’s a spectacular site and truly beautiful.
Some nights we turn off our lights and wave our arms through the water to watch the sparkling shower of light, the bioluminescence, cascading down all around us. When the moon is full and the skies are clear we can see almost as clearly as daytime; it’s fabulous!
Incredible things occur while we are night diving……and also during the day.
A word for beginner divers: It’s totally normal if the thought of night diving makes you feel very apprehensive. In time you’ll learn how safe we are while submerged, only splashing on the surface or carrying speared fish are the times we are slightly at risk.
All of God’s creations are magnificent…I wish everyone had the chance to witness this other world.
Happy diving; talk to you soon!
